The Delores Project
The Delores Project is an overnight shelter housing homeless adult women who might otherwise have to sleep on the street or in other circumstances which put them at great risk.
We have committed to provide and serve a meal to the women at The Delores Project on the second Sunday evening of the month.
Next Opportunity: Sunday, August 8th
We need cooks, loaders, and servers.
The Delores Project provides safe, comfortable, overnight shelter and services to unaccompanied adult women who are homeless and have limited resources. Their model of service is one of hospitality, respect and regard for the dignity of each guest.
On any given night in metro-Denver, more than 550 adult unaccompanied women are homeless and there are fewer than 200 emergency shelter beds available to them. Each night the Delores Project provides caring shelter to as many as 75 women who would otherwise stay in places that put them at immense risk of harm. In 2007 more than 500 women found safety, comfort and respect at The Delores Project. Many have accessed their Transitional Services and about 80 have left for more permanent housing solutions that provide long-lasting stability.
Opportunities to Serve
Serving a Meal: At the shelter, each night a hot supper is prepared and served by volunteers to the women. As a church we have volunteered to provide a meal the second Sunday of every month. Many individuals are needed for this project - some to cook, some to pack food and other items into the van, and some to go and serve.
Items Always Needed We keep a wire basket by the M2540 kiosk where the following items will be collected on an ongoing basis:
| toilet paper | Disposable gloves (medical and food service) | Multi-purpose cleaner (gallon refill size preferred) |
| sugar | tea | lemonaid |
| Kool Aid | Tang | coffee |
| trash bags | kitchen rolls | disposable silver ware |
