Africa with Partners Worldwide
Our purpose is to share our faith in Christ by using our skills, knowledge, and resources to serve overlooked and ignored people in Zambia, Africa. A team from Eastern Hills will be traveling to the Village of Hope in Zambia on August 14, 2010. Please pray for the safety and health of our team and that God would provide the knowledge and wisdom necessary for us to be a blessing to the people there. Zambia Mission Report
On November 24, 2008 a team of eight people from EHCC traveled to Zambia to visit the All Kids Can Learn (AKCL) Village of Hope. They spent two weeks working with the staff on recordkeeping and accounting procedures for the village businesses. Other team members sorted a large shipment of clothing and books that will be sold in the village store. Everyone played with the children. Several of the team members repaired some farm equipment, assessed the village water supply, and prepared to sink a new well. Others worked with the village leadership to further develop their short-range strategic plans and better define their long-term goals.
The team also visited a local church for Sunday services and had the opportunity to spend a day viewing animals at a wildlife preserve. The team came home with a firm understanding of the greatest needs of the village and a good idea of the next steps we as a church can take to best serve this growing community of HIV/AIDS orphans. Over the next few weeks we will be posting photos, videos, and personal stories from the team members to the M2540 website, www.m2540.com.
I'm changed, I'm smitten by the kids of the Village of Hope, as well as their community. Thoughts of People who were unknown to me before now occupy my day and night dreams... I pray for them, I scheme for them. Zambia and Africa as a whole has captured my interest. Yes, it's gratifying to use one's particular (and even quirky) gifts to serve deserving people. I was glad to use my medical background and experience with patient teaching to provide education on some vital topics to a group of women from both neighboring Villages.
And, who knew my drama/script writing experience would be used to produce a puppet show for the kiddos. Midweek, I was hanging out with the kids at recess and one of the girls was jump-roping. The Teachers had said that the kids were practicing counting so I started counting her rope jumps. Soon a small group appeared wanting THEIR rope jumps counted as well (and the kudos I'm sure) This little act of service required no special skill.
Thanks for the opportunity!
